How to clean up Attributes and Terms in WordPress

Over time, your WooCommerce store might accumulate duplicate attributes or unused terms (values), especially after importing large catalogs or switching PIM systems. The StoreLinkr WordPress plugin includes built-in tools to help you keep your database clean.

The "Danger Zone" Tools

In the StoreLinkr WordPress plugin settings, you will find a "Danger Zone" section. These actions are powerful and cannot be undone, so use them with caution.

1. Merge Duplicate Attributes

This tool scans all WooCommerce attributes and merges those with identical names. All associated product values are moved to a single attribute, and the duplicates are deleted.

Important

After merging attributes, you may need to re-link or refresh your product filters (e.g., Faceted Search) to ensure they recognize the new unified attribute.

2. Delete Unused Attribute Terms

Product catalogs change, and often terms (like "Navy Blue" or "XL") remain in the database even after the last product using them has been deleted. This action removes all terms that are not currently linked to any products, keeping your attribute lists short and manageable.

Best Practices

  • Backup First: Always create a full database backup before running "Danger Zone" actions. There is no "undo" button.
  • Run after Major Changes: We recommend running these tools after a large initial import or after deleting a significant number of products from your catalog.
  • Check Frontend: After cleaning up, browse your store to ensure your product filters and variation dropdowns are still working as expected.
